About Hapkido

Hapkido combines long range defense techniques such as the powerful kicks of Tae Kwon Do and devastating strikes of Karate and Boxing,
with close range defense techniques such as joint locks, throws, and pressure points of Judo, JuJitsu and Aikido.
Hapkido kicks are known for their power, grace and speed. The kicks can be applied low and practical, so one does not have to have a high
level of
flexibility in order to use them in a self-defense situation. On the otherhand, if you do have
the
flexibilty,
agility and the necessary
body type, we can teach you the "High Art" of kicking skills to reach your fullest potential based on your
abilities.
In the 1980's, Master Jino Kang also incorporated American Boxing into the repertoire of typical "Karate Style" strikes. The traditional
strikes are powerful and devastating as you can see in the Grand Master's demonstrations. However, with the fluidity and unlimited
combinations of Boxing, it is certainly a welcomed adjunct to traditional strikes.
The grappling aspects of Judo, Jujitsu (Japanese style) and Aikido are inherent in Contemporary Hapkido.
However, Master Jino Kang
is in the process of incorporating the ground fighting system of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gracie system) into Hapkido.
Thereby, completing
the nearly perfect art.
Hapkido has every imaginable type of self-defense technique including weapons training, such as Bo
(Staff), Sword (Wood and Live Blade),
Dan Bong (Short stick),
Knife Defense, Gun Retention and Stick Fighting (Kali/Arnis/Escrima).
The weapons are generally taught after a
few years of empty hand combat training to acquire the necessary skills to handle weaponry
in a
responsible manner.
